The Rebellion continues...
June 14, 2007 marked the first year anniversary of the Oaxacan government’s failed attempt to remove the striking teachers from the main square of Oaxaca, an attempt by the police sent by the repressive Oaxacan governor Ulises Ruiz.
This altercation a year ago, ignited a massive rebellion and the creation of the APPO(Asamblea popular de los pueblos de Oaxaca) whose work is represented in this show.On this important anniversary, June 14, 2007, the APPO and the Teachers Union Section 22, organized a day of remembrance and protest in the city, with a massive march toward the Zocalo and the construction of barricades all over the city.
They held a meeting in the Zocalo to restate their demands for better working condition for the teachers, and dismissal and imprisonment for Oaxacan governor Ulises Ruiz, guilty of more than 20 killings. They also restated their demand for the release of the 6 remaining political prisoners still in jail.
As of this moment, the APPO and teachers are back at the Zocalo, threatening to boycott the Official Guelaguetza, an important cultural dance festival, if the Ruiz government does not meet their demands.Long Live the APPO!!
Jail to Ulises Ruiz and his gang of criminals!!
