OAKLAND, Calif. (June 5, 2007)  -- The Front Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition titled Oaxaca Resistance And Color. The exhibition is curated by Calixto Robles and represents work of contemporary Oaxacan Artists. It will run from June 1st To July 27, 2007.

Oaxaca Resistance And Color surveys recent work by Asamblea de Artistas Revolucionarios de Oaxaca (ASARO.) 16 Artists working in many different media; including painting, printmaking, video, photography, music & sculpture express their opposition to the tactics used by the PAN-PRI Mexican government during the Oaxacan uprising last year. The work in this exhibition reflects the anger and determination of these artists to liberate their friends and countrymen. Hopefully, the artwork also holds a promise for a new Oaxaca where people can live with justice and dignity as well.  The works by the artists of ASARO are not signed in order to protect the anonymity of the artists.

The Front Gallery shows contemporary artwork by artists at different career levels. Exhibitions span various disciplines and mediums in both traditional and unconventional formats. The main criteria for shows and work in the gallery are that they be current, lively and compelling.

The gallery is located at 35 Grand Avenue, at the corner of Broadway and Grand in downtown Oakland. Receptions are free and open to the public.

The Front Gallery is a member of Oakland Art Murmur, host of Oakland's First Friday Art walk.
